When Axl Rose filled in for Brian Johnson on AC/DC’s Rock or Bust tour back in 2016, many speculated that Rose could end up a permanent fixture in the band. However, Angus Young says that scenario wasn’t a possibility.

Young said to Total Guitar (as transcribed by Ultimate Classic Rock) that Rose becoming AC/DC’s full-time singer “never really came up.”
Young added, “Axl was really very generous, and he helped us out to get through our touring side at a difficult spot. He had contacted us and said he could help if it didn’t interfere with his own commitments of what he was going.”

Young continued, “He wanted to come in and try songs that he himself liked, and he was suggesting songs I hadn’t played in a long time. I’m definitely grateful that he volunteered, and that had helped us finish off our commitment. But he has his own life.”

And by “his own life,” Young obviously means .

In case you’re reading this and have just come out of a coma, AC/DC has a new album coming out on November 13 called Power Up, which serves as a tribute to late founder/rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young. Power Up is available for pre-save on major digital platforms here. The album is also available for pre-order in physical formats at ACDC.com.
