Team and Crown Complex representatives at the introductory press conference for the Fayetteville Stingers, who will tip off play in The Basketball League on March 3.

The basketball buzz is back in Fayetteville, as the Fayetteville Stingers are bringing professional hoops action to the Crown Arena starting this March.

The Stingers held their introductory press conference this week, announcing their introductory season in The Basketball League will start on March 3.

Leading the team will be a familiar name, as Fayetteville native Robert Brickey is the head coach. Brickey was North Carolina Mr. Basketball as a senior in high school at E.E. Smith in the mid 1980s. He went on to play at Duke, and has served as a coach or assistant coach at places like Army, SMU and Shaw University, among others. Most recently, he was head coach of the Raleigh Firebirds in The Basketball League.

“The Fayetteville Stingers are dedicated to enhancing the game of basketball throughout the region and becoming a community asset,” a team release said. “The Stingers have made it a mission to be the hometown team that every fan looks to for entertainment and championships; the premier team that every basketball player wants to play for.”

The season tips off March 3 on the road at Raleigh, with the first home game in the Arena set for March 10 against the Central Florida Force. The Stingers will host 12 home games, including matchups against Raleigh and Central Florida, as well as the Gulf Coast Lions, Charlotte Purple Jackets, Coastal Georgia Buccaneers and the Georgia Soul.

Road games for the Stingers will be in all of those markets, as well as a trip to Canada to play the Newfoundland Rogues.

TBL has 49 teams listed across the country, broken down into four regions.

Season tickets are on sale now, according to the team, and single game tickets will be on sale soon.
