Pacific Gas and Electric has launched an estimated $1.5 million research program to study the possibility of submerging turbines under the water to gather energy from tidal flows. A previous study conducted by the Electric Power Research Institute in 2006 came to conclude that the tides that pass under the iconic Golden Gate bridge are the best on the West Coast of the U.S. to generate power. Starting at midnight, San Francisco residents will be directed to ‘shelter in place’ until April 7 amid coronavirus concerns.

As The San Francisco Chronicle explains, this goes for San Francisco, Santa Clarita, San Mateo, Marin, Contra Costa, and Alameda counties. The city of Berkeley is also participating.

They add that places like hospitals, grocery stores, banks, and pharmacies will stay open; businesses that attract large groups, like gyms, bars, and nightclubs are required to close down. Restaurants are allowed to remain open for takeout or delivery, and emergency services, like police, will also continue as normal.

Although residents are required to stay indoors, they will be allowed to leave the house to go grocery shopping, pick-up medicine, and get fresh air.
