For the second year in a row, the Academy Awards won’t have a host. On Wednesday (Jan. 8), ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke confirmed the Oscars would go hostless after the success of the 2019 telecast.
“Let me confirm it now, together with the Academy, that there will be no traditional host this year,” Burke said at the TCA Press Tour.
There were rumors that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson might host the 2020 Oscars. There was even chatter that Johnson would co-host with Kevin Hart, who voluntarily stepped down after homophobic jokes he’d tweeted years earlier resurfaced.
Last month, Hart told Variety that he would be “open” to hosting the show. “Hey look, I have nothing but love for the Academy,” he said on the Jumanji: The Next Level red carpet. “I always will. I think that, you know, any conversation is always a good conversation. So, TBD. To be determined.”
The 92nd Academy Awards airs February 9 on ABC.
