Music News

Just like Queen with Bohemian Rhapsody, Motley Crue is experiencing a big bump in streams and downloads thanks to the release of The Dirt on Netflix.

Per Deadline, the Crue’s music has seen their Spotify streams go up 570%, while their streams on Apple Music have gone up 900%. Apple iTunes downloads have also gone up a whopping 2,027%. Deezer users have also provided for a streaming increase of 669%. On top of that, copies of ‘The Dirt’ book have led to the memoir topping Amazon’s music book chart.

All of this is happening while the film has been panned by a majority of critics, while being well received by fans. Currently on Rotten Tomatoes, The Dirt has a 42% rating from critics compared to its 85% “audience score” rating.

Regardless of what the critics think, The Dirt has been a welcome success for the band, making it blatantly clear that there are two ways to increase catalog numbers: Either release a popular biopic or die. Hopefully, more of the former happens and not the latter. I doubt anyone has the strength to deal with another 2016.
