Quincy Jones Called Out Michael Jackson For Stealing

Quincy Jones, co-producer for some of Michael Jackson’s best-selling albums, didn’t hold back at all in a recent Vulture interview.

When Michael & I were doing "Liberian Girl," I wanted to add something special to make it more personal, before we sent in the final mix. So, I called up some of the best of the best... Caiphus Semenya & Letta Mbulu, who at the time were living here in LA because they were exiled from S. Africa during the apartheid. I asked them to add a touch of Swahili, so I had Letta speak the intro phrase, "Naku penda piya-naku taka piya-mpenziwe," which means something along the lines of "I love you too. I want you too, my love." It was such a small addition, but it became the stamp of the song! Sometimes, all you need is that extra little touch to make a track more relatable...I'm tellin' ya...Just close your eyes, listen to it, & let it take. you. away!! According to Pigeons & Planes, when asked about Michael, Jones said, “I hate to get into this publicly, but Michael stole a lot of stuff. He stole a lot of songs.” He went on to name a few, “State of Independence and Billie Jean. The notes don’t lie man. He was as Machiavellian as they come.”

He went on to touch on The Beatles, Donald Trump, today’s music, and more.
